How this calculation works
Expressions follow parentheses, function calls, powers, multiplication/division, and addition/subtraction. Powers associate right to left; −2^2 = −4.
Enter an expression using +, −, *, /, ^, parentheses, pi, e, sqrt(), sin(), cos(), tan(), log() for base 10, ln(), abs(), or exp(). Use * for multiplication; select degrees or radians for trigonometry.
How to use this calculator
- Enter or choose expression.
- Enter or choose angle mode.
- Select Calculate and review the result and assumptions.
Worked example
sqrt(16) + 2^3 evaluates to 12. In degree mode, sin(30) evaluates to 0.5.
Assumptions and limitations
Real numbers only, with up to 500 expression characters. No variables, implicit multiplication, factorials, or arbitrary code execution.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use 2pi without a multiplication sign?
No. Enter 2*pi. Multiplication must be explicit.
What happens for invalid real-number operations?
Division by zero, invalid logarithms, and non-real roots produce a clear error instead of a numeric result.
