Your result
How this calculation works
Decimal = percentage ÷ 100.
Enter the percentage number without the % sign, then press Calculate. The result is the decimal multiplier you can use in a formula. For example, enter 25 for 25%, not 0.25. This tool converts notation; it does not calculate a percent increase or a portion of another value.
How to use this calculator
- Enter or choose percentage (%).
- Select Calculate and review the result and assumptions.
Worked example
12.5% becomes 0.125 because 12.5 ÷ 100 = 0.125. To find 12.5% of 80, multiply 80 × 0.125 = 10. A very small value such as 0.00001% becomes 0.0000001.
Assumptions and limitations
Negative percentages and values above 100% are valid: −5% becomes −0.05 and 150% becomes 1.5. Enter a finite number, without a percent sign or thousands separators. Calculations use browser floating-point arithmetic; results display up to 12 significant digits. Extremely small values below the representable numeric range may round to zero.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert percent to decimal?
Divide the percentage number by 100. For example, 7% is 0.07 and 0.5% is 0.005.
Can a decimal multiplier be greater than 1 or negative?
Yes. Percentages above 100% give multipliers greater than 1, and negative percentages give negative multipliers. The conversion itself does not restrict which values make sense in your application.
How do I convert a decimal back to percent?
Multiply the decimal by 100 and append the percent sign. For example, 0.125 × 100 = 12.5%.
